Anita's Biography

Born and raised in Winnipeg, I have really grown to love it here, and have - after a 7-year jaunt over to Montreal - returned to Winnipeg, where I am pursuing a PhD in Physiology, and live with my husband in the West End. I enjoy the urban lifestyle, the ability to walk and bike everywhere I need to go, and the proximity to many excellent restaurants and shops.

I began playing the Paraguayan harp when I was 10 years old. I have played for many weddings, Christmas parties, church services, and some birthdays and funerals. Blending my two loves - music and science - I had the opportunity to provide dinner entertainment for a group of scientists at a conference held at Gull Harbour Resort in 2004. I have also spent a little time playing as a harpist with a rock band (Arcade Fire), an unforgettable experience that really stretched me musically. While I learned some paraquayan music from my teacher, my repertoire now mainly includes classical music, as well as traditional folk melodies, and a long list of Christmas carols. The harp lends itself beautifully to outdoor ceremonies, garden tea parties, or picnics. Whether indoor or outdoor, the harp has the quality to beautify the space it's in.
